leaping...

Minutes turned into days, days into weeks, and weeks into months... and somehow in the blink of an eye we arrived here, February 29, leap year, and the day before I return to work. I have mixed emotions about my return. On the one hand, I am excited to get out of the house, wear professional clothing (hopefully sans spit up), have adult conversations with my coworkers, and use my very expensive law degree on a daily basis. But on the other hand there is this:

Enough said.

When I told people I was taking 6 months off of work to stay home with Henry, several people expressed that they couldn't wait to get back to work after their child was born. I don't judge those people, I'm just not one of them. I knew this was going to be hard, just not this hard. I thought I would have SOME desire to jump back into work, but to be brutally honest, I don't. I don't want to miss the smiles, giggles, the play time, and all the firsts. But I'm telling you all of this before I actually go back. The first day/week will be hard, but I'm sure once I get into a routine it will be easier. Right?!

In other news, Ryan and I FINALLY got to go out on Saturday night! Grandma and Grandpa Beach offered to watch Henry so Ryan and I could go out to dinner! We had a great time, and the best part of the night? Henry slept through the night!! (which he is doing more and more these days! yay!)

-- Pat and Mike, thank you for the night out!! You can watch Henry any time!!! :)

Other parts of our weekend:

Reading with Daddy

Henry has been eating solids a bit more -- he is liking the rice cereal more, and he also tried some avocado and sweet potato this week.

Not so sure about the avocado

How about sweet potato?

Yum!

I think we have a winner!

Weekend Fun!

What a fun weekend we had! On Friday Aunt Lindsey came over to see Henry. We took a walk with Charlie, and she was around for bath, books and bedtime for Henry and then stayed for dinner and hung out with me and Ryan. On Saturday, Grammie came to visit! She made what could have been a hard weekend so much better! (Ryan had to work all day Saturday and then went to a concert that night, so it was so nice to have Grammie here to help!) We played all Saturday afternoon after Henry got up from his nap. We went for a walk, gave Henry a bath, read books, and put him to bed. On Sunday we did more of the same, but we were able to sneak out during Henry's nap and go shopping! (Finally found some nice black out curtains for Henry's room -- yay!!!) Later, we took a walk with Charlie and Grammie was even here for Henry's first taste of rice cereal! Sunday evening came too fast when she had to leave, but we plan to see her again next weekend! yay! Thanks for a fun weekend Mom!

Usually Mom is behind the camera, but Grammie snapped a photo of us!

A determined look to get the toy...

"Hey, Mom, can you get that for me?"

Got Rice?

For the past month Henry has been extremely interested in our food - putting his mouth on our water glasses, grabbing at our plates and looking quite angry as he watches us put food into our bellies. His 6 month birthday is next week, but with the craziness of me going back to work and settling into a new routine, we thought we would try out some rice cereal this weekend... The photos pretty much say it all!

All ready... time to eat!

First taste....

"Hey, this isn't so bad..."

"Nope, I don't like it.... "

"eh, I'll try some more..."

"wait, is that the same stuff you just gave me??"

"where is the stuff you guys have been eating??"

"Mom, I would rather eat your face than rice cereal!"

We had fun giving Henry his first tastes! We will try again in a few more days.... and then comes the fun stuff -- squash and pumpkin, avocado, banana.... yum!

*Pics by Grammie -- Mom, thank you for capturing these amazing moments!

Lots of Love

Happy Valentine's Day! I know it's a made up hallmark holiday, but it's hard not to love, (chocolates, candy, sparkly things -- what's not to love??) especially now that I get to share it with Henry! Our little family had a wonderful morning before Daddy went to the office. It's a beautiful snowy day and I am enjoying a nice cup of tea and watching our little guy wiggle and move all over the place. We have a crawler in our near future!

We have been a busy family! Last week Henry visited Grandma Beach at her work and met all the "ladies!" We went out to lunch on Sunday where Henry was a great patron and then visited Grandma and Grandpa Beach in Novi. Yesterday we got out of the house and took a nice walk with Charlie in the sun and fresh air. Tomorrow is playgroup and we are visiting with friends on Thursday. Finally, Grandma Sobczak will be visiting this weekend! Good thing Henry is taking some good naps to be well rested for all these visits!

Happy Valentine's to you and yours -- enjoy your day!

Our Sunday Morning
(To give Ryan credit, he did wake up at 5:15am with Henry and let me sleep in for another hour!)

All smiles :)

LOVES those feet!

"Happy Valentine's Day, Mom!"

I seriously cannot get enough of these smiles!!
